Black Women Killed by Police, Part 5

  1. Shelly Frey – (Age 27, 2012) shot and killed by an off-duty deputy after he suspected the mother of two had shoplifted from Walmart.
  2. Sheneque Proctor – (Age 18, 2014) Young mom who died in an Alabama jail cell after hours of neglect.
  3. Shereese Francis – (Age 30, 2012) Woman with a diagnosed mental illness suffocated in her home as officers attempted to handcuff her—they had been called to the home by her family, who had requested medical attention. Francis was apparently frightened and confused when officers arrived at her home and pleaded for them to leave while threatening to “call the cops.” Four police officers allegedly pursued Francis throughout her home, finally cornering her in a basement bedroom where they subdued her face down on a bed. She struggled to breathe before going into cardiac arrest.
  4. Shonda Mikelson – (Age 33, 2014) Died after she displayed a rifle and a replica handgun to an un-uniformed officer, who was responding to a domestic disturbance call. The officer fired his gun and struck Mikelson in the chest. The officer wasn’t injured.
  5. Shulena Weldon – (Age 36, 2012) Struck and killed by a Police SUV. Video shows that the officer was distracted before hitting Weldon who was crossing the street. He drug her body a few feet before stopping.
  6. Sonji Taylor – (Age 27, 1993) Shot and killed on a hospital roof by police after displaying erratic behavior. On the night she was killed, Taylor had been on the verge of becoming a state corrections officer, having passed her entrance exam with a score of 91%.
  7. Sophia King – (Age 23, 2002) Woman with a known history of mental illness was shot and killed by police in front of her home.
  8. Summer Marie Lane – (2004) A man was attempting to cash a check under a fake name. Police were called. Lane left the store first, but as the man was leaving police arrived. The men fought, while Lane attempted to either hit the officer or escape with the suspect. During the fight, the officer shot Lane, saying he was afraid she’d run him over. This was first ruled against policy then ruled within policy.
  9. Tanisha Anderson – (Age 37, 2015)  Died during an encounter with Cleveland police as her family, who had called 911 seeking help, watched from their home.
  10. Tarika Wilson – (Age 26, 2008) A SWAT team arrived at Ms. Wilson’s home to arrest her companion, Anthony Terry, on suspicion of drug dealing. Officers bashed in the front door and entered with guns drawn, said neighbors who saw the raid. Moments later, the police opened fire, killing Ms. Wilson and wounding her 14-month-old son, Sincere.

This is so sad and tragic . I feel we are yet to see any progress . I am the husband of # 44 on the list ( Dr Jameela Yasmeen Arshad ). Kenner , LA police murdered my wife and mother of my only child while she was engaged in a act of Good Samaritan to save someone’s life . Unfortunately we didn’t have any video of the incident . Even if we had a video , I am certain , nothing will come out of it . With legal system designed to favor racist law enforcement, I met road blocks and failed in 9 courts to get any justice . With Trump appointing all the right wing judges all over the country , I don’t see anything positive happening soon at least in judicial arena . God bless those who continue to suffer and struggle to seek justice in this country . I didn’t get any .

I had no idea how many of us were being killed. How do you plead not guilty to driving drunk? How does an officer get off using excessive force? Why are they killing the mentally ill? How does a healthy teenager in a detention home not wake up the next morning and the correctional officers have no idea how she died? People need to start being held accountable. There is definitely something wrong with in the police force nationwide and the issue is they feel they are above the law. All they have to say is that someone brandished a weapon and they are clear, but how does brandishing a knife get you shot in the stomach and then shot in the head, how can you be acquitted after doing that? Do they no longer have Tasers? Why are they tazing (spell Check) old women confined to wheelchairs to the point of death? How did this old women seriously pose a threat to healthy should be in shape men? How can being pulled over for a traffic violation result in death and not a ticket? Why is it that the military have rules of engagement but police officers don’t. Isn’t there a such thing as escalation and de-escalation of force? Why are these departments not hiring the best and brightest who also have common sense? Why are they hiring these muscle heads who are stupid and when scared cannot stay calm to evaluate the situation? America is no longer the land of opportunity but the land of death without trial and jury because these officers are the real life Judge Dredd’s and until all citizens come together this will continue on all color spectrums but especially on the darker side of that spectrum.
